Imphal, Feb 3 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday morning reviewed the overall law and order situation in Manipur.
Chidambaram was accompanied by State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and security officials.
He held a security review meeting at the State secretariat with Ibobi Singh and other senior officials in view of the intensified counter insurgency operation in the state.
Imphal (Manipur), Jan. 8 : Surrendered militants staged a hunger strike here on Wednesday over demands for proper rehabilitation and jobs.
Around 37 activists belonging to groups like the People''s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) participated in the hunger strike.
The former insurgents claimed that they had been evicted by the police and civic officials from a relief camp that was once occupied by the Second Commando Battalion of the Manipur Police.
The authorities, however, contend that the site was earmarked as staff quarters for the police personnel.
Imphal (Manipur), Jan. 3 : In separate encounters, the security personnel have gunned down four militants in eastern Imphal and Bishenpur Districts of Manipur.
Reports reaching here from Imphal said that a joint team of police commandos and Assam Rifles raided Sanjenbam village in Imphal East District on Saturday morning after getting some leads on militant movement in the area.
Imphal, Dec. 28 (ANI): Despite the general society in Manipur yearning for peace, some militants are unwilling to give up their old habits and are not allowing people to lead a normal life in the State.
In the latest incident, some militants tried to disturb peace around the Raj Bhavan, the Governor's house.
