SPML Tech rolls out ATP services in GujaratSPML Technologies, a group company of Subhash Projects & Marketing Ltd (SPML), on Monday announced the completion of first phase of its automated anytime payment (ATP) kiosks in the state. Through this facility, the electricity consumers will now be able to pay their electricity bills anytime with multiple payment options such as cash, cheque, demand draft and credit or debit card. The company is providing this service under build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) model.

Hepatitis B death toll in Gujarat rises to 60Sabarkantha (Gujarat), Mar 2 : The Hepatitis B death toll in Gujarat has risen to 60, with four more deaths reported on Monday.

A Sabarkantha District health official said: “Four people have lost their lives on Monday, taking the number of deaths due to hepatitis infection to 60.”

There have been several new cases reported, taking the total number of cases registered to over 184, off which 60 have died.

Most of the diseased have been reported from Sabarkantha District.

SBI deposit base in Gujarat set to jump by 45% in FY09

Slump in stock markets and real estate has worked in favour of State Bank of India (SBI), as the largest commercial bank is all set to post 45% growth in deposit base in Gujarat during the current financial year. This is against 24% growth posted by the bank in the previous fiscal and the bank has never seen such a whopping growth in the past. "Few years back, the growth in deposits in Gujarat was around 15%, while in the previous year, it increased to around 24%. But in the current fiscal, we expect it to grow by more than 45%," said chief general manager, SBI, HC Pattnaik.

The proposed sale has dismayed the Gandhians in Porbandar, as they believe it goes against the philosophy of a man who shunned material possessions and led an ascetic life.

The pair of the famed metal-rimmed spectacles, a pocket watch and sandals of Gandhi are scheduled to be auctioned.

Used-syringe racket busted in AhmedabadAhmedabad, Feb. 27 : The Municipal Corporation of Ahmedabad on Friday considered several raids across the city and recovered huge quantities of used syringes and other medical wastes, suspected to be the reason behind the recent Hepatitis B outbreak.

District health officials and police raided various go-downs of scrap dealers. Five go-downs were sealed from where a large quantity of used syringes, needles and bio-medical wastes were found.
