Nano to roll out of Gujarat plant by the end of 2010
The world's cheapest car, Nano is expected to hit roads from Sanand plant in Gujarat by end 2010, according to top officials of the company. Large scale construction activities for buildings and pre-engineering structures are going on at full swing at Sanad, near Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad-based pre-engineered steel structure building manufacturer Phenix Varco Pruden has been constructing the paint shop and the ancillary plant buildings of different sizes and it is expected to complete the work by the end of March. The work to shift the complex machinery and the plant components from unfinished plant in Singur to Gujarat may take almost a year due to large distance between two places.
The mother plant was earlier to set up in Singur in West Bengal but TATA group was forced to shift it to Gujarat due to stiff opposition by Mamta Benergee led Trinamool congress and other opposition parties of state on the issue of land acquisition issue.
Ratan Tata has expressed his will to provide cheapest car to people and decided not to revise its prices despite significant increase in raw material costs.
He had once said, during the sidelines of Auto Expo in New Delhi, "We are happy to present the People's Car to India and we hope it brings the joy, pride and utility of owning a car to many families who need personal mobility."
