Poll shows cost of business travel to riseFrankfurt, Germany  - Business travellers should expect to dig deeper into their pockets for airline tickets and hotels next year, according to a survey by American Express.

The study indicates that overall prices are not expected to increase vastly. However, the cost of flying is likely to rise by up to 7 per cent and that of hotel rooms by up to 6 per cent.

The price hike is likely to affect German business travellers even more with flights out of the country to rise by 9 per cent.

Germany extradites Rwandan politician to France

RwandaFrankfurt - Rose Kabuye, 47, a senior Rwandan politician, was extradited Wednesday from Germany to France, where she is wanted for questioning in connection with a 1994 assassination.

German federal police said she left on a flight from Frankfurt to Paris in the early afternoon.

Since arresting her on November 9 when she arrived by plane, Germany had been waiting for French police to pick her up. She was wanted under a European arrest warrant issued by the French.

Last week, Kabuye agreed to fast-track extradition and German judges approved her being handed over to France.

Frankfurt's Korkmaz fractures foot again

Umit KormazFrankfurt - Austria forward Umit Kormaz fractured his right foot for the second time in five months on Wednesday and is sidelined for several months in the latest injury shock at German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Korkmaz picked up the injury during training. He suffered the same fate in his first training at the club in July after a move from Rapid Vienna and was out for three months.

"I have never seen such bad injury luck in my many years in football," said Frankfurt board chairman Heribert Bruchhagen.

Employers, engineering workers strike pay deal in Germany

IG MettallFrankfurt - Germany's powerful IG Metall trade union reached a pay deal with employers on Wednesday, averting a potentially damaging nationwide strike in the engineering and electrical sectors.

Some 3.6 million workers will receive a two-stage increase totalling 4.2 per cent under the terms of the agreement reached after marathon talks lasting 23 hours.

The union staged a week of industrial action to lend force to its original demand of 8 per cent. It also threatened an all-out strike if employers did not budge from their original offer of 2.1 per cent.

The breakthrough came during marathon talks lasting more than 24 hours and averted the threat of an all-out nationwide strike.

Germany to extradite Rwandan presidential aide

Germany MapFrankfurt - Germany is to send Rose Kabuye, 47, a Rwandan presidential aide, to France after judges approved the extradition request Wednesday, a Frankfurt prosecution office spokeswoman said.

Kabuye, a former guerrilla leader and mayor of the Rwandan capital Kigali, was arrested when she landed at Frankfurt airport on Sunday.

Rwanda expelled the German ambassador to Kigali in protest and recalled its own ambassador from Berlin.
