Sarkozy set to meet bankers as French shares plunge

Nicolas SarkozyParis  - French President Nicolas Sarkozy was to meet with the heads of French banks and insurance companies later Tuesday as French shares tumbled for a second consecutive day in the wake of the refusal of the US Congress to approve a finance bail-out.

The aim of the meeting at the Elysee Palace is to "review the situation of the financial institutions as well as the availability of credit to households and companies," Sarkozy's office said Monday, but the defeat in the House of Representatives of the plan to rescue the US finance sector will add urgency to the talks.

Manmohan Singh arrives in Paris, India and France may sign nuke deal

The final leg of Singh's 10-day visit to the United States and France will see him holding talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy today on various issues of mutual importance to the two countries.

Paris - A topaz worth an estimated 250,000 euros (360,000 dollars) has been stolen from an art exhibition in the French resort of St Tropez, France Info radio reported on Monday.

New aviation pact ends legal uncertainty on 26 pending India-EU deals

Marseilles (France), Sept. 29 : The Horizontal Civil Aviation Agreement signed between India and the European Union on Sunday evening, finally ends nearly six years of legal uncertainty on bilateral deals on civil aviation services between EU member states and third countries discriminated against airlines from other EU states.

It may be recalled that in November 2002, a European Court had decided that such deals could not be encouraged.

With the passing of the latest deal, 26 separate deals that India had held with individual EU member states have been
