India, EU identify new activities to complement Joint Action Plan

France, IndiaMarseilles (France), Sept. 29 : The European Union and India have identified new activities to complement the 2005 India-EU Joint Action Plan, with the objective of promoting international peace and security and working together towards achieving economic progress, prosperity and sustainable development.

They include the following:

Promoting Peace and Comprehensive Security

- To strengthen their consultations in the United Nations Human Rights Council and sustain their dialogue on human rights with a view to promoting the universality of human rights.

Paris - A topaz worth an estimated 250,000 euros (360,000 dollars) has been stolen from an art exhibition in the French resort of St Tropez, France Info radio reported on Monday.

New aviation pact ends legal uncertainty on 26 pending India-EU deals

Marseilles (France), Sept. 29 : The Horizontal Civil Aviation Agreement signed between India and the European Union on Sunday evening, finally ends nearly six years of legal uncertainty on bilateral deals on civil aviation services between EU member states and third countries discriminated against airlines from other EU states.

It may be recalled that in November 2002, a European Court had decided that such deals could not be encouraged.

With the passing of the latest deal, 26 separate deals that India had held with individual EU member states have been

Marseilles (France), Sept. 29 : The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has begun an interaction with the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, and European Union Commisioner Javier Solana, on the need for strengthening of ties between India and the European Union.

Sources said that co-operation on peace and security issues is high on the agenda of the Ninth India-EU Summit.

Climate change and the global economic crisis will also figure in the discussions.

Before the summit commenced, India and the EU inked a civil aviation pact that will pave the way for greater air connectivity and facilitate better travel facilities for passengers.

Famous author Hubert Coudurier writes in the controversial book ‘Love, Rupture and Betrayal’ that in the run-up to the presidential elections last year, an altercation between Sarkozy and his then-wife Cecilia had even led to a police complaint.
