Dubai, Nov 8: The election of Barack Obama as the 44th US president represents a victory for radical Islamic groups that had battled American forces since the invasion of Iraq, leader of a jihadi group in Iraq has said.

Dubai - The Ruler of the Gulf Arab Emirate of Dubai urged the new US government in a speech on Friday to focus on fixing its economy rather than wars.

"The financial crisis cannot be solved by going to war," said Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum in a the World Economic Forum in Dubai. "We advise the US administration to focus on their economy rather than wars."

Dubai, part of the United Arab of Emirates, and other states in the Gulf Arab region, have opposed any military action against Iran.

London, Oct 28 : A British couple convicted of having sex on Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach may be jailed for a longer term, with prosecutors filing an appeal against their sentence.

The Court of First Instance had sentenced Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors to a three-month term in jail, fined 1,000 dirhams, and issued with deportation orders earlier this month.

However, according to their attorney Hassan Matter, the prosecutors have lodged an appeal against the sentence, saying it was “not enough”.
