UAE reviews human rights recommendations

Human RightsGeneva, Dec. 9th, 2008-The Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) adopted the report prepared by the troika of rapporteurs on UAE's human rights issues in Geneva on Tuesday.

The troika -- Argentina, Cameroon and Indonesia, who were elected by the Human Rights Council - praised the "exemplary" manner in which the report was prepared and presented, as well as the "seriousness" with which human rights issues are dealt with by the UAE.

A statement issued by the Diwan, mourning the death of late Sheikh Ali Bin Rashid Al Mualla, and praying to Almighty God to bestow His mercy on the deceased, said that the funeral prayers will be offered at 10 am Tuesday morning at the Grand Mosque in Al-Ras area in Umm Al Qaiwain.

India will retake second place with series win over England

Reliance Mobile Cricket RankingDubai, Dec. 9 : India will go second in the Reliance Mobile ICC Test Championship table if it beats England in the upcoming two-Test series that gets underway in Chennai on Thursday.

By winning the series 1-0 or 2-0, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team will overtake South Africa and recapture second, a position it had briefly enjoyed after its 2-0 home series victory over Australia recently.

South Africa will have an immediate opportunity to take back that place with a three-match series in Australia on the horizon. The first match of that series begins in Perth on
17 December.
