Chinese foreign minister to attend trilateral meetingBeijing, Nov 7 : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the 12th meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Russia and India and also the 11th Asia-Europe meet in India Nov 10-11, the ministry announced Thursday.

Wang was invited by India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Xinhua quoted foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei as saying.

About the China-Russia-India foreign minister's meeting, Hong said the ministers would have an in-depth exchange of views on the current international and regional situation and issues of common concern.

New mutant gene discovery to help research

mutant-geneBeijing, Nov 7 : Chinese doctors have discovered and registered a new mutant gene for alpha-thalassemia, in a first of its kind advance worldwide that enriches the gene database to assist researchers find a cure for the genetic disease.

Li Youqiong and colleagues from the People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, discovered this gene, a 21.9, after a series of experiments on a carrier of the hereditary disease in 2011, reports Xinhua.

Thalassemia is a disease in which the carrier is missing or has malfunctioning genes responsible for making haemoglobin, the blood protein that helps to carry oxygen around the body.

China's manufacturing sector grows fastest in seven months

China manufacturingAccording to the latest figures released, China's manufacturing sector has recorded its fastest growth in seven months during the month of October.

A new private survey showed on Friday that sector recorded strong growth backed by new export order, indicating that the economy is stabilising. The final HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) was recorded at the rate of 50.9 compared to 50.2 in September. The figure was mostly in-line with preliminary flash estimate released in the previous week.

Wen, who hosted Manmohan Singh for a luncheon banquet here Thursday, said during the event: “We were like two drivers with steady hands on the wheels, driving in the right direction.”

Glaxo’s sales fall 61% in China

Prof. Theeshan Bahorun, at the Center of Excellence for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research at the Mauritius University, said that the Mauritius green tea prevents an increase of sugar levels in blood while the fermented pawpaw helps to positively reduce the level of the reactive protein C and the uric acid, China Daily reported.

Bahorun said that the results are very significant because they show a reduction of risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases without medical intervention.
