China to display its nuke submarines for first timeNew Delhi, Apr 21 : China will display its nuclear-powered submarines for the first time in history during a fleet parade to mark the 60th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Navy.

The Chinese navy's missile destroyer 115 Shenyang is docked at Qingdao Port for an international fleet review.

Deputy Commander of the PLA Navy Ding Yiping did not disclose any further details about the submarines.

Holgar Haibach, the head of the four-member delegation from the human rights committee of the German Bundestag, said many of the group's questions were not answered and their minders in Lhasa, Tibet's capital, wanted to give the Germans the impression that all was normal in Tibet.

China starts constructing third-generation nuclear reactorsNew Delhi, Apr 20 : China has started the construction of its first third-generation pressurized water reactors using AP 1000 technologies developed by US-based Westinghouse.

The reactors, located in Sanmen of east China's Zhejiang Province, will also be the first in the world using such technologies.

The Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant will be built in three phases, with an investment of more than 5.88 billion dollars injected in the first phase, Xinhua reported.

"The advancement and growth of the PLA navy is consistent with China's economic advancement and its role in a globalised world," said Admiral Gary Roughead, US Chief of Naval Operations.

Admiral Roughead told reporters in Beijing that China's plan to build its first aircraft carrier is not a cause of worry.

Ming Dynasty Great Wall in China more than 2,551.8 kms longer than earlier thoughtNew Delhi, April 20 : A two-year investigation has revealed that the length of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty era in China, is estimated to be more than 2,551.8 kilometers longer than earlier thought.

According to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) and State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM), the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Great Wall is 8851.8 kilometers long.

Their joint investigation has increased the length of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall by 2551.8 km.
