CPI calls for shutdown in Tamil Nadu over Sri Lankan Tamil issue

Chennai,Tamil Nadu Nov 17 : The Communist Party of India (CPI) convened an ''All-Party Meeting'' in Chennai on Monday to decide their further course of action after Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa''s statement in New Delhi on November 13 ruled out any possibility of a ceasefire till the rebels laid down their arms.

Participants at ''all-party meeting'' decided to mobilize people to mount pressure on the Central government to intervene in the ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka and to stop the war.

Law college students target BSP leader

A group of Law students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College attempted to attack a Bahujan Samaj Party functionary in Chennai. This incident happened near the General Hospital. But the prompt action of the police stationed there helped him to safety.

BSP leader Rajappa of Pallavaram had gone to see a friend admitted in the hospital. But when the students marked the party flag on his vehicle they surrounded him. But the police stationed there acted first to rescue him.

The aid has enabled the dog to move around without any discomfort and even play with the owner. 

Julie, the pet, today moves around with the aid of stilted wheels, which is almost, like a ''wheel chair'' designed by its owner. 

Ramadoss announces national organ transplant programme

Anbumani RamadossChennai, Nov 15 : Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss today launched a National Organ Transplant Programme to improve the scenario for major transplantations like kidney, liver and heart in the country.

The proposed national plan will have emphasis on promoting cadaver donation. The national programme will aim to enhance the facilities for organ transplantation throughout the country, establish a network for equitable distribution of retrieved deceased organs, and increase the availability of organs through facilitation and attitude change.
