Shivraj Patil to visit violence-hit Bangalore today

Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilBangalore, Oct 14: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will arrive here today to review the steps taken to control the violence, following a fresh attack on a church in Bangalore on Monday.

The Archbishop of Bangalore Catholic church is expected to meet Patil with his petition.

Earlier, a two-member Union Home Ministry team visited the state. The team, led by M L Kumawat, Special Secretary (Internal Security), held discussions with the Karnataka Police about the recent attacks on churches in the state.

India set to launch Chandrayaan One on October 22

ChandrayaanBangalore, Oct 10 : Chandrayaan I, India ''s spacecraft mission to moon will be launched on October 22 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikotta.

The spacecraft has been fully integrated with all instruments and is presently under going final stages of tests at the launch complex.

ISRO Chairman Mr Madhavan Nair said the mating of the spacecraft with the launch vehicle and the satellite would take place on October 17.

The incident took place inside the ''Our Lady high School'' at Mathagondapalli near Thali in Dharmapuri District on Saturday night.

The school authorities have filed a complaint with the police.

Chandrayaan to be launched on October 22Bangalore, Oct 6 : Chandrayaan-1, India’s first unmanned mission to moon is scheduled to be launched from the spaceport of Sriharikota at 6.20 a. m. on October 22, Indian Space Research Organisation sources have said.

The satellite was transported from here to Sriharikota in a special vehicle last week and has reached the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR).

The spacecraft is expected to be mated with ISRO''s workhorse rocket, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C11) later this week, the sources told media.

Create separate force to fight terrorism: Shivraj Patil

Shivraj PatilBangalore, Oct 5 : Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has asked the Karnataka Government to set up a new force on the lines of Indo-Tibetan border force for coastal region to fight terrorism in the State.

Addressing a late night press conference in Bangalore on Saturday, after reviewing the law and order situation, the Union Home Minister said the centre would extend all possible assistance to the State.

Patil was in Bangalore to review the law and order situation and earlier in the day he had gone to Puttaparti to take the blessings of the Sai Baba.
