Wipro BPO to set up business shared services centre in Curitiba, Brazil

Bangalore, Oct 31 : Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited announced that its Business Process Outsourcing division, Wipro BPO, is setting up a Shared Services centre for AmBev, the largest brewery company in Latin America with leading brands like Brahma, Becks, Stella and Antarctica.

The Shared Services Centre will provide services to AmBev across Latin America in the areas of Finance and Accounting, Order Management, Customer Services and HR Services. The partnership is expected to provide significant financial benefits and leverage transformation opportunities across AmBev operations in the region. These services will be provided from Wipro''s facility at Curitiba in Brazil.

Chandrayaan-I left all cheerful but Byalalu villagers high and dry

Chandrayaan 1Byalalu (Bangalore), Oct. 27 : The launch of India''s maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-I from Sriharikota recently cheered all across India, except the residents of Byalalu and Chandrappa Circle villages near Bangalore where Deep Space Network is tracking the Chandrayaan – 1 satellite with the help of two large antennae.

Villagers here lament that the state government acquired their land at a very low rate for the project a few years ago. But today they feel cheated in comparison to those who can currently sell off their land at many times higher than that prices.

Chandrayaan-1 enters deep space

Chandrayaan-1Bangalore, Oct 27 : Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, India''s maiden moon mission, on Sunday crossed the 1,50,000 km distance mark from Earth and entered deep space.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in a statement on Sunday in Bangalore, said that the milestone was reached after the successful completion of the spacecraft''s third orbit raising manoeuvre.

ISRO also said that in the coming few days more orbit raising manoeuvres have been planned to take Chandrayaan-1 towards the Moon.

Antony says light combat aircraft Tejas will be part of IAF by 2011

A K AntonyBangalore, Oct 25 : Defence Minister A K Antony today said that the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project is very much on track and there was no question of abandoning the programme, which would be completed by 2011.

“I can tell you with all confidence by end of 2010, the LCA is expected to get its full operational clearance and by 2011, I am sure IAF will be able to get the first delivery of the aircraft,” Antony told reporters, after reviewing the performance of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

ISRO says Chandrayaan-I progressing smoothly towards Moon

G Madhvan NairBangalore, Oct 25 : ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair has said that Chandrayaan-1 has covered 20 percent of its journey towards moon as scientists on Saturday performed the second orbit-raising manoeuvre.

“So far, Indian-made satellites have reached to a height of only 36,000 km. Today’s firing has taken Chandrayaan-1 to something like 75,000 km. That’s well beyond what we have reached so far. It was a good event, and done precisely,” Nair, also secretary in the Department of Space, said.
