Bangalore, Sept 24 : The Karnataka High Court in a land mark judgment gave ruling which allowed the employment of women at places that serve alcohol here today.
The ruling also quashes the existing “Karnataka Excise Act 1965”, which prohibits women from working at such places including pubs, dance bars and live bands, where liquor is served.
The High Court while announcing its verdict also referred to a similar judgment by the Supreme Court last year, which permitted women to be employed as bar tenders provided their security was ensured.
For the first time Bangalore today, Sep 21, bore the brunt of the communal tension that has gripped the state of Karnataka following the communal row. Bangalore faced communal row as a rowdy mob targeted two churches in Karnataka's capital city, this morning.
The attacks took place at Mariam Palya and Raja Rajeshwari Nagar early in the morning. An incident of stone pelting was reported at the Raja Rajeshwari church, while the church at Mariam Palaya was damaged by agitating groups.
Bangalore, Sept. 22 : The Archbishop of Bangalore, Bernard Moras, has strongly protested the attack on at least 20 churches, which resulted in injuries to 34 people, including five policemen.
``I am saying publicly we are very deeply hurt,'''' Morras told Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa in the presence of reporters.
``What will you do if your temple is destroyed?'''' Moras asked Yeddyurappa, a senior BJP leader in Karnataka.
Yeddyurappa said the violence was unacceptable. ``We also are hurt'''' by the attacks, he said.
Bangalore, Sept 22 : Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa will review the prevailing law and order situation in the state with his cabinet ministers here today, after the recent attacks on churches.
Even yesterday, a mob had attacked three churches in the city. Earlier, on September 14, suspected activists of Bajrang Dal attacked at least nine churches in the state as a mark of protest against the alleged conversion of Hindus to Christianity.
