Five killed in suicide attack in eastern Afghanistan

Kabul - A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-packed vest in a market in eastern Afghanistan on Friday morning, killing five men and wounding seven others, a provincial governor said.

The attack took place in the main market in Zazi Maidan district of south-eastern province of Khost when a bomber detonated his explosive among the people, Arsala Jamal, provincial governor told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

"All five dead men were civilians. They were local shopkeepers," Jamal said, adding the site of the attack was close to the main police headquarters in the district and an intelligence office.

Nearly 250 Nepalis stranded in Kabul

KabulKathmandu, Sept 26: At least 250 Nepali youths have been left stranded in Kabul after their employment agent allegedly fled without providing them the promised employment.

The victims informed their relatives in Nepal about their agony just few weeks after reaching the Afghan capital.

Bishnu Prasad, one of the victims, told his elder brother Indra Prasain of Satashidham of Jhapa district, that he and many other Nepali youths have been left stranded and finding it difficult to earn a living and often hide themselves to avoid arrest.

Afghanistan denies Pak claim that kidnapped envoy was “careless” over his security

Peshawar, Sept 26: The Afghanistan Government has refuted Pakistan’s claims that the kidnapped Afghan Ambassador-designate Abdul Khaliq Farahi didn’t take enough security measures to protect himself.

Sultan Muhammad Baheem, the spokesman for Interior Ministry of Afghanistan, said that Farahi was an experienced diplomat and that he had not shown any carelessness in ensuring his security.

Baheem said the Afghan Government didn’t blame any group or individual, and that neither they have received any demand nor had been contacted by the kidnappers.

Both the governments wanted to resolve the matter amicably and recover the abducted envoy safe and sound, The News quoted him as saying.

Pak troops fire at intruding US choppers along Afghan border

Washington, Sept 26 : The US and Pakistani troops exchanged fire along the Pak-Afghan border last evening, after Pakistanis reportedly fired shots at two American helicopters which, Pakistan claimed, had crossed into its border.

A top American military official said that the two American “OH-58 Kiowa” reconnaissance helicopters were not damaged and no casualties were reported.

American and NATO officials said that the two helicopters were flying about one mile inside Afghan airspace to protect an American and Afghan patrol on the ground when the aircraft were fired at by Pakistani troops stationed at a military checkpoint near the Tanai district in Khost Province. Small-caliber arms were used, added the officials.

Two police officers were killed Wednesday night when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in the Spin Boldak district, said Matiullah Khan Qateh, provincial police chief.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted at its website but said four border police forces were killed.

New York, Sept. 25 :Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai has warned the United States that its credibility is at stake in the wake of the killing of innocent Afghans by NATO troops.

“Terrorist forces have significantly increased their attacks and brutality and enjoyed freedom in their sanctuaries. Civilian casualties can seriously undermine the legitimacy of fighting terrorism and the credibility of the Afghan people''s partnership with the international community,” Karzai told the UN General Assembly''s annual gathering of world leaders.
