Reddit is not “a bastion of free speech”, says CEO

It has been reported that there are conditions of turmoil for Reddit, which is a site that draws attention to different sides of the Internet. The problem has emerged since interim CEO Ellen Pao resigned last week. CEO and co- founder Steve Huffman will also conduct a Reddit AMA- "Ask Me Anything".

He will conduct AMA, in which Redditors can talk with him in relation to present and future of the site.

Huffman has prepared by posting an announcement on the site regarding the company's content policy. As per reports, the important parts of his statement include concerns regarding the site's offensive subreddits. Pao had earlier made attempts to shut down them.

So it seems that, Huffman agrees with his former CEO, "The overwhelming majority of content on reddit comes from wonderful, creative, funny, smart, and silly communities. That is what makes reddit great. There is also a dark side, communities whose purpose is reprehensible, and we don't have any obligation to support them". He gave the statement on the site.

He also said that the site's original goal was not to become a place where anything happens. Huffman said that he and Alexis [Ohanian] have not created Reddit to be a defender of free speech. It is a place where open and honest dialogue can occur, he said. However, it has been pointed out by users of Reddit that this is in opposition to a number of statements given by Ohanian.

Some people even talked about an interview in 2012, during which Ohanian called Reddit "a bastion of free speech".
