Record breaking Disaster
The recent disaster in Haiti has caused maximum destruction as far as the natural disasters are concerned. According to a study by the Inter-American Development Bank the disaster has cost record breaking $13.2 billion damage. It also holds the record for claiming most lives as a percentage population in any country. It took 200,000 to 250,000 lives.
Labeled as the most destructive event any country in the world has ever faced it has affected the capital city of the country. The center of commerce, government and communication has also faced the outrage of Mother Nature. The study also revealed that Haiti's economic output is likely to around 30% lower than it otherwise would have been.
There are challenges ahead of Haiti and for the international communities as well trying to support the country. The report suggests that all the research has discounted the amount of help received by Haiti. The figures would have been worse if the help would not have been considered.
There are major issues ahead of Haiti to settle 300 thousand families that have been affected. These homeless people need to first get the basic necessities, currently they are living on the streets. An estimated 600 thousand families were already living without a permanent housing.
