Question Mark over Apple’s HomeKit Launch

Launch of Apple’s HomeKit has been delayed after sources reported that the technology firm's Internet of Things software framework was experiencing delays.

Apple PR on the other hand said that the launch is on track and will be on scheduled time.

Apple was widely expected to launch its HomeKit devices in May or June this year (i.e. now), but now there are suspects that the launch is being pushed back until August or September.

The products will have to match the Apple’s security standards for integration on the proprietary framework, which for Apple, will mean smaller ‘partners’ will be sacrificing control for a small percentage of financial return.

HomeKit will connect multiple smart home devices together, allowing them to talk to the iPhone but also to each other.

Fortune magazine, revealing the problems of the delay, cited the sources involved in the program who claimed that that the launch date for some devices has been moved back.

Fortune’s news not necessarily contradicts the expected launch date for the first devices but also admits that Apple has never announced a launch date for HomeKit, but partners had said they expect something in spring.

In response to Fortune’s scoop Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller said dozens of partners have committed to bring HomeKit accessories to market and they are looking forward to the first ones coming next month.

“HomeKit has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market and we’re looking forward to the first ones coming next month”, said Trudy.

Fortune's Stacey Higginbotham said she will wait to see how the first wave of HomeKit products matches up with the original list of partners announced in June 2014.
