Tehran  - An earthquake shook Tuesday the Caspian Sea province of Gilan in northern Iran, Fars news agency reported.

The quake, which was also felt in the provincial capital Rasht, is believed to have had a magnitude of over 5 degrees on the Richter Scale.

No details on damage were immediately available. (dpa)
