Pravin Mahajan dies in Thane hospital

Pravin-MahajanPravin Mahajan, has died on Wednesday in a hospital in Thane where he was taken two months back. He was serving life sentence for killing his brother and senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.

Anil Dhere, Thane Police Commissioner said, "Since Mahajan was in judicial custody at the time of his death, we do not want to take a chance and so have insisted for an autopsy, which will be conducted at J J Hospital's postmortem centre."

He was admitted in the Jupiter Hospital from the last two months for brain haemorrhage. The police want to double check and hence has demanded an autopsy.

Jail officials have said that convict is usually entitled for a daily allowance of Rs 25 but Mahajan did no work in prison due to health reasons. His wife Sarangi will be entitled to security of Rs. 7,000 which was deposit as per jail rules.

Pravin is survived by his wife and children Kapil and Vrushali. Pravin's older brother and a leader in Shiv Sena Prakash Mahajan said "It is sad that such an incident occurred in the family. I am quite unfortunate to have lost both my brothers. I can't describe my mother's condition."

Pravin has been convicted of killing his brother Pramod at his residence in Worli on April 22, 2006 and he was sentenced to life in 2007.
