Potterheads express distaste over Johnny Depp's casting in 'Fantastic Beasts' sequel

London [UK], Nov. 3 : Looks like recent domestic abuse allegations against Hollywood actor Johnny Depp are not cooling off any time soon.

The 53-year-old actor has received tons of backlash on social media for his recent casting in the sequel to J.K. Rowling's ' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' for a secretive role, reports the Daily Mail.

Heard filed for divorce from Depp in May when she appeared in a Los Angeles court with a bruised face. She sought a temporary restraining order against the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star whom she accused of abuse.

While many Potterheads did not appreciate the decision, several fans took to social media to personally message the movie franchise's official account as well as JK Rowling to express their distaste.

One user named @wednesdaydreams wrote, "hello @jk_rowling @FantasticBeasts the Harry Potter universe is all about being against the abuse of power and yet you cast a known abuser?"

Another microblogger @annalikestweets wrote, "hey @jk_rowling many harry potter fans are survivors, and this hurts them so much!"

Some pointed out the double standards in showbiz and complained about the actor continuing on with a successful career.

"Winona Ryder stole something once and her career plummeted. Johnny Depp abused his wife & he continues to get roles. i love double standards," one user wrote sarcastically.

Depp, who will appear in a cameo in the first film, reportedly will have a bigger role alongside British star Eddie Redmayne in the sequel in 2018. (ANI)
