Post offices to offer discounts on gold coins
Head post offices and all major post offices in the central region are set to offer an attractive discount of 7.5 per cent on gold coins on May 13, 14 and 15.
The discount of 7.5 per cent on gold coins is being offered by India Post in collaboration with Reliance Money Infrastructure Limited, according to a media release by the Postmaster General, central region, Tamil Nadu. The release also said that the offer will be available to mark festive days of `Akshaya Tritiya' and `Pushya Tritiya' in the country.
India Post will offer discount on gold coins of different denominations on occasion of the `Akshaya Tritiya' festival, which is considered auspicious for buying the shiny metal in India. The festival of Akshaya Tritiya is celebrates as day to welcome prosperity by people in different regions of the country. People usually purchase gold this day as it is conserved a symbol of prosperity in the country. The discount will be applicable on gold coins of denominations of 0.5 gram, one, two, five, eight, 20 and 50 grams.
State-run, India Post has been selling cold coins made by Valcambi of Switzerland since 2008 after a joint venture with World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure. The department sells gold coins on 800 post offices spread across the country.
