Pope calls for Promotion of Women in Offices of Roman Curia
Pope Francis has said women can be appointed as heads of some offices of the Roman Curia. However, a lot more needs to be done to understand the role women should have in the Catholic Church.
Pope said on May 16 that women should be promoted, but it’s simply functionalism to assign a certain number of leadership positions to women. Pope Francis said that it is very important to ensure that women have a voice to raise their concerns and others must listen to them because the Church also needs their specific contributions.
“When we men are dealing with a problem, we arrive at a conclusion, but if we deal with the same problem along with women, the conclusion could be different. It could lead along the same path, but would be richer, stronger, more intuitive”, he said. The feminine genius is very much required in the Church and women must have this role.
Pope also talked about the stories and ministries of religious he has come across during his two years as bishop of Rome. He also shared the experiences he had as archbishop of Buenos Aires.
According to Pope Francis, findings a good spiritual director is not an easy task for both men and women religious. It is because of two factors: either a priest does not understand what consecrated life is, or the intention is to get him involved in the ‘charism’ and give it his own interpretation.
He also said that it’s a very challenging task to find a good confessor.
