Polling begins for Hamirpur Lok Sabha bye-election in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Himachal PradeshMay 22: Voting for Hamirpur Lok Sabha bye-election in Himachal Pradesh began this morning amid tight security.

Twelve lakh voters are expected to decide the fate of four candidates who are in the fray.

There are 5,88,294 males and 5,85,068 voters in the constituency spread over seventeen assembly segments in the districts of Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur and Dehra revenue sub division of Kangra.

The main contest is between BJP and Congress. BJP has fielded Anurag Singh Thakur, son of State Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while Congress has put former MLA Om Prakash Rattan.

The bye-election was necessitated after the resignation of Dhumal from the seat.

Around 1370 polling stations have been set up, out of which 293 has been declared sensitive and 163 hyper sensitive.

The counting will be held on May 25. (ANI)
