Pollen Tsunami may worsen Plight for Allergy Sufferers

According to an expert, a ferocious winter and starting of climate change has created a ‘pollen tsunami’ and it’s going to be problem for allergy sufferers in the Northeast.

Oak and birch trees are appearing at the same time as the seasonal ones such as poplar, alder and ash. Shortly, the grass pollens arrive, according to expert.

“It's a triple whammy. The early and mid-spring tree pollen and the grasses are hitting all at once to create misery and suffering”, said Dr. Clifford Bassett, medical director of Allergy & Asthma Care of New York.

As per Bassett, winter snow and rains fed tree root systems and prompted a robust response. Presently, a deluge of pollen is irritating vulnerable sinuses and also leaving its telltale green residue on porches and window sills. People get more susceptible to allergies by air pollution.

Guy Robinson, who teaches in the natural science department at New York's Fordham University and runs its two pollen testing stations, said the pollen numbers are not strangely high for the first week of May. According to experts, if anyone has allergies, should check the pollen count and stay indoors if it's high.
