Poll: Danes would elect Obama in landslide
Copenhagen - Were it up to Danish voters, US presidential candidate Barack Obama would win a landslide victory, a Danish newspaper reported Friday.
The Gallup poll commissioned by the Berlingske Tidende newspaper indicated that Democrat Barack Obama was supported by 80 per cent of Danish voters, while Republican John McCain was backed by 5.8 per cent. Almost 7 per cent said it did not matter, the rest were undecided.
In all 1,108 Danish voters were surveyed by Gallup on October 28 and 29. A majority, 79 per cent, said they believed Obama would be better in restoring the reputation of the United States.
Obama was better for cooperation with Europe, according to 73 per cent of those polled while 58 per cent said they viewed that Obama was the best candidate to clear the financial crisis.
Concerning who was the best candidate to take on the fight against terror, Obama scored 47 per cent while Vietnam War veteran McCain was supported by some 16 per cent. The remainder were undecided.
Obama was supported by all age groups, men and women, and over the political divides in Denmark. (dpa)
