Varun Gandhi deposes before NSA board in LucknowLucknow, April 28: BJP’s firebrand leader Varun Gandhi on Tuesday deposed before the National Security Act board here following recent directions of the Supreme Court justifying imposition of the NSA against him in connection with his hate-speech.

Sources said that the deposition before the NSA board took place in camera.

Earlier, BJP supporters gave a rousing welcome to Varun on his arrival in the city by helicopter. He was escorted to the party headquarters where he reportedly addressed the gathering.

Advani attacks Congress on Quattrocchi issue

QuattrocchiAhmedabad, Apr 28 : Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani on Tuesday attacked the Congress party for being the leading force behind the Central Bureau of Investigation''s decision to remove the name of the lone surviving suspect in the Bofors payoff case Ottavio Quattrocchi from the Interpol''s list of most wanted persons.

Accusing the Congress for being desperate at a time when its five-year term at the Centre is almost over, Advani told a news conference here, "They are not going to come to power. Else, they would have waited for elections to get over and then take this step."

BJP rejects demand for resignation of ModiNew Delhi, Apr 27: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Arun Jaitley on Monday rejected demands for the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the Supreme Court has only asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe certain allegations.

“There is nothing against Modi. No enquiry has named him,” Jaitley told reporters here.

When asked whether Modi would resign after the SC directions, Jaitley said since the matter was pending before the apex court, the party would not like to say anything more on the issue.

"I will be very happy if Shourie''s wishes would come true," he said when asked to comment on Arun Shourie''s comment hinting Modi as next prime ministerial candidate.

Jaitley further said that Gujarat would have the opportunity to elect PM in next general elections also.

“In my personal opinion, the next Prime Minister should also be elected from Gujarat after Advani becomes the Prime Minister after ongoing general elections,” Shourie told a press conference here.

Arun Shourie further said that Gujarat has made rapid development under Modi’s leadership, which made him the best candidate for PM’s post.
