Police speak to two Bundesliga players over damaged cars
Berlin - Two German Bundesliga players have been spoken to by police in connection with a late-night incident in Berlin in which several cars were damaged, it was reported Wednesday.
According to Berlin's Morgenpost Online, the players from Hertha Berlin and Borussia Dortmund were seen scratching at least one car and damaging the wing mirrors of five others.
Police confirmed "an incident" in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the district of Wilmersdorf.
Hertha and Dortmund issued statements in which the two players allegedly involved in the incident - Patrick Ebert of Hertha and Kevin-Prince Boateng of Borussia Dortmund - denied any wrongdoing.
Ebert has told Hertha officials he and Boateng were stopped by a police patrol at around 3 a. m. and questioned about the damage.
However the midfielder, an under-21 international who was celebrating his 22nd birthday on Tuesday evening, categorically denied any involvement.
A Hertha Berlin spokesman said the club had been informed by police that two footballers were involved in suspicious behaviour and that their particulars had been taken down.
Ebert will, however, face a hefty fine. The Hertha spokesman said the club would not tolerate a player being out at 3 a. m. (dpa)
