Police detects two ATM skimming devices in Perth

Police detects two ATM skimming devices in PerthPolice officials have detected and seized two skimming devices at automatic teller machines at two different locations in the Australian city of Perth.

The police found two devices at ATMs in Perth's central business district and in Joondalup during the previous week. Technology Crime Investigators are currently examining the devices aimed at ATM card theft in the city. One of the machines was detected by a person using the ATM while the other machine was detected by a bank manager.

WA Police officials said that such devices can be easily installed over the ATM card slots and can access a customer's bank card data and personal identification number that can be used later to steal money from their accounts.

The official s also said that even as the machines are technologically advanced, it is easy to spot them because of the need for double sided that is used to attach them to the machines. The machines often become loosely attached to the area and can be detected easily. The officials have warned people to be careful while using ATM machines especially during the upcoming Holliday season.

“WA Police recommends that members of the public remain vigilant, especially over the Christmas period, when using ATMs to conduct their banking,” a spokesperson warned the people.
