Amla, Philander fit for action against Pakistan

Vernon-Philander-Hashim-AmlaJohannesburg, Jan 30 : Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander have recovered fully from their injuries and are back in South Africa''s team to face Pakistan in the first Test at the Wanderers on Friday, according to Proteas team doctor, Mohammed Moosajee.

The only player still uncertain was Robin Peterson who suffered a cut to the webbing between his last two fingers on his right hand in the last Test. Imran Tahir was brought into the squad to cover for Peterson, reports Sport24.

Philander again puts pressure on number one ranked Steyn

Vernon-PhilanderDubai, Jan 7 : South Africa paceman Vernon Philander has edged closer to number-one ranked Dale Steyn in the Reliance ICC player rankings for test bowlers after his match-winning spell against New Zealand in the Cape Town Test.

The latest rankings were released on Monday following the conclusion of the Sydney Test in which Australia defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets to sweep the three-Test series. The second and final Test between South Africa and New Zealand will start on Friday 11 January in Port Elizabeth.
