Spike Lee wants boycott of New York Post over chimpanzee cartoonNew York, Feb. 21: Filmmaker Spike Lee called on celebrities to join a boycott of the New York Post Friday during a raucous protest of a racially charged cartoon.

Joined by his 11-year-old son, Lee told a crowd of about 300 people that he has bought the tabloid in the past - but no more.

According to the New York Daily News, he suggested athletes and entertainers shun the paper''s writers because of Wednesday''s cartoon, which compared President Obama with a crazed chimp by some interpretations.

Spike Lee to produce film on WWII bookWashington, Feb 3 : Spike Lee has grabbed rights to produce Brendan Koerner''s book "Now the Hell Will Start" which based on World War II.

Lee will produce the manhunt tale under his company, 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks, reports the Variety.

The movie will be a non-fiction thriller, subtitled "One Soldier''s Flight From the Greatest Manhunt of World War II."

The film traces the story of an African-American soldier who murdered his lieutenant and then fled into the Burmese jungle.

Spike LeeWashington, January 28 : American filmmakers Spike Lee and Tyler Perry have been nominated for the NAACP Image Awards.

They were leading the pack when the civil rights organisation announced the nominations in three directing categories on Tuesday.

Lee has been nominated for best motion picture director with Miracle of St. Anna.

Other strong contenders for the award are Perry (The Family That Preys), Darnell Martin (Cadillac Records), Gina Prince Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees) and Patrik Ian Polk (Noah''s Arc: Jumping the Broom).

Spike LeeNew York, Jan 7 : Even though Emmy Award winning director Spike Lee owns houses on the Upper East Side and on Martha''s Vineyard, and sends his kids to private schools, he still cribs about his wealth.

Lee, 51, says that he is not very rich, and that compared to the wealth of others he is nothing.

"It's not rich rich," the New York Post quoted him as telling Britain''s Observer.

"Rich is Spielberg. Lucas. Gates. Steve Jobs. Jay-Z! Bruce Springsteen. I''m not complaining. But that''s money. Will Smith. Oprah Winfrey - that''s a ton of money.
