Jordanian premier apologizes for police beating of al-Jazeera staff Amman  - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi apologized Friday for the beating by police of four al-Jazeera cameramen and the news network's Amman bureau chief during a demonstration outside the Israeli embassy in Jordan's capital.

Dahabi made a personal visit to extend his apology to Yasser Abu Helalah, director of the Arabic television channel's Amman office, who was being treated in hospital for injuries suffered in the melee.

Jordanian premier makes relationship-building trip to SyriaAmman - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi flew to Damascus Thursday as part of Amman's recent intensive effort to bolster ties with Syria and other Arab countries.

The visit, the second of its type by high-ranking Jordanian officials over the past month, is designed to improve ties with Syria which had soured following Amman's decision to send a low-level delegate to the Arab Summit in Damascus earlier this year.

Jordan premier visits Qatar as part of efforts to improve relations Amman - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi flew to Doha Saturday for a two-day state visit to Qatar designed to open a new chapter in relations between the two Arab countries which have not been on good terms over the past decade.

Jordan's efforts to improve ties with Qatar started last week when the chief of the Jordanian royal court Nasser Lawzi took a message from King Abdullah II to Qatar's ruler Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Jordan government guarantees all bank deposits Amman - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi announced Thursday that the government would guarantee all bank deposits in the country until the end of 2009.

"All bank deposits, without any ceiling, will be guaranteed by the government until the end of 2009," Dahabi told board chairmen and general managers of local commercial banks whom he met at the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).

Dahabi and CBJ governor Umayyah Touqan assured the bank executives that the country's banking system was not experiencing any liquidity shortage or any credit crisis.

Jordan refers eight firms involved with foreign bourses to court Amman  - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi on Monday referred six new firms involved in trading with foreign bourses and currency markets to the State Security Court (SSC) on "suspected fraud", an official statement said.

The move brought to eight the number of firms referred to the SSC in a week under the provisions of the Economic Crimes Law after thousands of Jordanian citizens claimed the companies failed to repay them tens of millions of dollars they deposited with them.

Jordanian premier travels to France for Euromed summit

Nader DahabiAmman - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi on Saturday headed to Paris to lead his country's delegation to the Euromed Union summit due to open there Sunday, an official statement said.

Dahabi will deputise for King Abdullah II, who is currently on a private visit to the United States.

The Jordanian premier will deliver a speech at the meeting that "underlines the importance of boosting ties between the European Union countries and Middle East and North African states with a view to working together to achieve peace and prosperity for their peoples," the statement said.
