India-Netherlands bilateral trade pegged at 7.2 bln dollars in 2007-08

Kamal NathNew Delhi, Feb 10 : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath has stated that the bilateral trade between India and Netherlands has increased from US
3.9 billion dollars in 2006-07 to US 7.2 billion dollars in 2007-08.

During his interaction with Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade Franck Heemskerk, Nath said the Netherlands is amongst India''s top trading partners and the two way trade has shown a healthy increase.

India, Finland agree to explore new areas of trade cooperation

Kamal NathNew Delhi, Feb 6 : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath and Finland Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Dr. Paavo Vayrynen today agreed to encourage businesses to explore new areas and sectors to widen and deepen the trade basket between the two nation.

Both sides felt that mutual trade and investment between Finland and India is growing and there is lot of potential for developing these economic relations further.

SEZs, EOUs encourage manufacturing activity in India: Kamal Nath

Kamal NathNew Delhi, Feb 3 : Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath today said that the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Export Oriented Units (EOUs) have significantly contributed towards employment generation and encouraged manufacturing activity in the country.

Speaking at the Export Awards function organized by the Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES) here, Nath said, "During the period 2003-04 to 2007-08, exports from SEZs and EOUs have increased from Rs. 42,641 crore to Rs. 221,066 crore, a growth of 418 per cent in four years."

Kamal NathDavos (Switzerland), Jan. 31 : Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has stated that hope and aspiration in India is leading to social mobility and prosperity and these are the engines that are driving India's growth today.

Speaking at a Breakfast Session on "Surviving the Meltdown and Brand India", here today, Nath said that Brand India will be sustained by millions of "new" consumers seamlessly and further added that India neither needs to export a large part of its economy to balance domestic demand and supply, nor does it need to import large amounts of capital to balance domestic demand and supply.

The news comes when lower growth projection of 8 per cent in 2009 by our neighbor China was termed as a tall order.

Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath confirmed at the World Economic Forum, "We hope to continue at the same level of 7-7.5 next fiscal."

Liberalisation of the global economy should continue: Kamal Nath

Kamal NathDavos, Jan. 30 : Concerned by the worldwide economic slowdown, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has urged the international community to join hands for more efforts to liberalise the global economy in order to stimulate growth, save jobs and enhance living standards.

Addressing a Session on "Enabling Trade: Threats & Opportunities", in Davos on Friday, Nath said that comprehensive multilateral, regional and bilateral trade agreements have been critical to spurring such liberalization in the past and should continue to be pursued actively.
