Steyn, Amla reveals Proteas not worried about Test rankings

Hashim AmlaJohannesburg, Dec 22 : South Africa's pace spearhead Dale Steyn and batsman Hashim Amla have revealed that they are not focused on the Test rankings, post their recent innings and 220-run win over a beleaguered West Indies team in Centurion on Saturday.

South African squad is in little danger of losing their number one ranking in Tests, as a series victory by any margin against the West Indies, who are plagued by pay disputes, player withdrawals, injuries and poor form, would maintain their position at the top of the ratings.

Morkel says Proteas determined to make life easy for new skipper Amla

Morne-MorkelJohannesburg, June 21 : South Africa paceman Morne Morkel has said that the squad is determined to make life as easy as possible for newly appointed Test captain Hashim Amla as they prepare for next month's tour of Sri Lanka.

Morkel said that it is a bit of a new-look team, a fresh team, but one that has played well.

According to Sport24, Morkel said that with Amla leading South Africa's Test squad, they are a team that wants to back him and play well for him to make his job a bit easier.

Cricket South Africa`s board meets in Johannesburg Tuesday to make what is seen as a crucial decision after a decade of Smith at the helm.

Smith captained South Africa in a world-record 109 Tests before announcing his retirement during the third and final Test against Australia last March. The national selectors will table their recommendation for the captaincy, but the final decision will be made by the board.

Smith and Amla are thus jointly the fastest South Africans to achieve the 6000 landmark in innings terms - and 17th overall - although Smith made the record first in his 73rd Test whilst this has been Amla's 74th.

Mitchell JohnsonSydney, Feb 11  : South African batsmen Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis have said that Australian pace sensation Mitchell Johnson would not have the same effect on them as he did on a shocked England in the Ashes despite his turnaround from career-worst to career-best.

Johnson's low point came in a miserable 2009 Ashes campaign, followed by an unremarkable 2010-11 edition although the bowler that blasted England away, taking 37 wickets to be Man of the Series in the 2013-14 Ashes, was an unfamiliar and frightening 'beast' for the tourists.

Amla, Philander fit for action against Pakistan

Vernon-Philander-Hashim-AmlaJohannesburg, Jan 30 : Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander have recovered fully from their injuries and are back in South Africa''s team to face Pakistan in the first Test at the Wanderers on Friday, according to Proteas team doctor, Mohammed Moosajee.

The only player still uncertain was Robin Peterson who suffered a cut to the webbing between his last two fingers on his right hand in the last Test. Imran Tahir was brought into the squad to cover for Peterson, reports Sport24.
