Islamabad, Nov 23 : Pakistan’s Supreme Court has declared the enforcement of the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) and imposition of emergency by President Pervez Musharraf as valid.

The larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar in its short order issued today said that the situation in the country was horrific — suicide bombings were taking place and the security forces were being targeted especially, the in the tribal areas.

The bench was highly critical of the situation in Pakistan, and said that the executive was left paralysed by the conduct of some of the members of the superior court.

In such circumstances, the Supreme Court short order said that the extra-constitutional measures had become imperative and, therefore, the apez court deemed valid Army Chief’s all those measures taken after November 3 besides validating the process of taking oath under PCO.

The apex court order also said that the Judges not taking oath under the PCO ceased to remain on their posts.

The order further said that the constitution can be restored with the improvement in situation and the Court would have the right to review the situation any time. (ANI)
