Pak PM believes UN probe will expose those behind Benazir’s killing
Islamabad, June 23 : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the demand for a UN investigation in the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto would unveil the hidden hands behind it.
“The government is confident of its law-enforcement agencies. The reason for UN probe in Benazir assassination is to expose the hidden hands behind her murder, if there are any,” The Daily Times quoted Gilani as saying.
Benazir was assassinated on December 27 last year after she had finished addressing a public rally in the run up to the February 18 general elections. She was gaining popularity and would have donned the mantle of her country’s prime minister once again, had her life was not cut short.
Her killing has been a mystery till date as nothing concrete has come out from investigation and no arrests been made so far. While TV footage showed a man firing shots at her from behind her car through the roof of which she was accepting greetings from her supporters, the identity of the man has not been established yet.
