Pak appreciates India’s gesture

Manmohan SinghWhile after the honourable Indian Prime Minister Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called his counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani offering more assistance to flood victims, the neighbouring country has said that it hasn't taken any call on the $5 billion aid offered by the country but has surely offered the gesture of India.

Pakistan government is considering the proposal and no decision has been made in this regard, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said.

Moreover, the minister also said that the government has appreciated the gesture of India as a country and the offer has been conveyed to relevant authorities and the matter is under consideration.

Dr Manmohan Singh also said that in such time, all of South Asia should rise to the occasion and extend every possible help to the people of Pakistan affected by the natural calamity.

It is to be mentioned here that close to one-fifth of Pakistan has been badly hit by the floods, the worst for the country in 80 years wherein, close to 1,700 people have died.

In fact going by the estimates of the UN, more than 6,50,000 people are without basic shelter while six million desperately need emergency aid.
