ONGC awards 102.9 MW project to Suzlon GroupSuzlon Group, which is a India's largest wind-turbine maker, has received an contract for 102.9 MW project from India's state run, ONGC.

Under the project, the renewable energy major will provide 49 units of Suzlon's S88 2.1 MW wind turbines. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2013, a company said in a statement. The company also said that the S88 turbines are designed to withstand extreme conditions and operate effectively in medium wind regimes with lower maintenance costs.

The project will be located in western state of Rajasthan. The national oil major already has stalled base of 51 MW from wind energy projects operating in Jakhau site in neighbouring Gujarat. After the implementation of the new project, the ONGC's total installed wind-power capacity will rise to 153.9 MW. The project will be completed in within the financial year till March 31, 2014.

The financial details of the deal has not been confirmed, but experts have said that wind turbine costs Rs. 6 crore per MW and this means that the project will be worth about Rs. 600 crore for the company.

Meanwhile, REpower Systems SE, a unit of Suzlon Group, has received a contract spreading across several years from wpd Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of project developer wpd AG. Under the contract, the company will deliver
51 wind turbines to wpd Europe.
