One in Three Young People in UK ‘Admit To Drunken Sex’

Drunken SexAccording to a survey of young Britons, almost one in three young people admit to having drunken one-night stands, later regretting them. The Sex Factor survey, a part of a report from the charity, YouthNet, into young people's attitudes towards sexual health, polled more than 2,000 young people aged 16 to 24, revealing 32% (the same number) indulged in unprotected sex while under the influence of liquor.

According to the poll:

  • "One in five (22%) young people went home with a stranger.
  • "15% invited a stranger back to their home.
  • "One in three (28%) sexually active young people claimed disappointment at their first attempt at sex. The top reasons over unhappiness at how they lost their virginity were: choosing the wrong person (75%), they were too young (40%) and in the wrong place (40%).

All surveyed were sexually active (92%) and over a third (37%) had under-age sex, with 3% of them 12-years old or under, when they lost their virginity.

Matt Whyman, a relationship expert says since alcohol lowers inhibitions, combining drink with little or no sexual experience has more serious consequences, such as, unplanned pregnancy, sexually-transmitted infections or even sexual abuse.
