Jammu, April 2 : The hate speech of Varun Gandhi did not threaten national security in anyway and a law other than the National Security Act could have been invoked to deal with it, says Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

In the course of a Press Conference at Jammu, Omar Abdullah said, "Varun Gandhi should face the weight of the law for what he had said. I am only uncertain, whether a law that is called National Security Act is what is required."

Reacting on the Union Home Minister''s letter about the threat to his security Abdullah said, "It is true that I am one of the recipients of home Ministry''s letter outlining the nature of the threat and precaution that required to be taken. It is something I have lived with, I have lived with assassination attempts and it does not haze me, it does not worry me, it does not stop me doing whatever I have to do. I am a political worker; a political worker''s survival depends on his or her ability to mingle with the people. And I will continue to do so."

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah assured that the guards on border would remain on high alert as "we never underestimate the threat of the militants at the same time we don''t want to exaggerate it."

"Yes, attempts of infiltration have been made. It''s not unique as the snow begins to melt and passes begin to open, attempts at infiltration are always made. We will do everything possible to ensure that over guard remains high and future attempts will also be thwarted," said Omar Abdullah. (ANI)
