NY Film Industry keen on developing relations with Bollywood

The New York Film Industry is keen on developing relations with the Bollywood. With New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting commissioner Katherine Oliver approaching the film producers at the B-town, the deal seems to be lucrative option for many.

Oliver who is currently in Mumbai said, “I am slated to meet Indian film industry professionals and talk to them about the benefits of shooting their movies in New York City.” The commissioner also added that her aim is to understand the needs of the Indian audiences and henceforth to provide them with the basic facilities they would require.

Emphasizing on the incentives they provide, she said that NYC will offer the Indian Film Industry with free permits, locations, police assistance, 35% tax incentive for below the line expenditure. Oliver also added that Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, in association with the HSBC Bank has launched the Made in New York discount card programme which entails encouraging the patrons in their business venture by provision of 10% minimum discount within the city’s five boroughs.

Looking at the expanse of business Bollywood can offer, the Commissioner has already approached Yash Raj Films chairman Yash Chopra on which he said, "We are currently shooting our movie in New York and we have received tax discounts, facilities, free security cops to look after our unit amongst other things. With these we have saved lot of money." He also added that the facilities provided has helped him to bring the budget of the movie down.

An open house is planned at Mumbai's JW Marriot this week where Oliver will provide an overview of the various facilities they have in store to offer to the prospective Indian film makers who intend to shoot at New York City. Various Bollywood movies like Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shirish Kunder's Jaan-e-Mann amongst have already been shot exclusively at NYC but the Mayor aims for more of these.
