Now, Portuguese police claim Madeleine died in a fall from the stairs

London, Oct 1 : A day after the British Police launched a new search for a new suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, Portuguese cops have claimed that the three-year-old died after she fell down a flight of stairs.

Police reports said that the tot, who went missing in May this year during a family holiday in Portugal, fell down a flight of ten stairs leading up to the McCann family apartment's patio doors.

The report also mentioned that British sniffer dogs found the "scent of death" and microscopic traces of blood inside the place and on Madeleine’s mum Kate McCann's clothes.

Meanwhile, detectives probing into the case are also looking for a maid sacked from the Mark Warner Ocean Club holiday resort who made way with the three-year-old in a revenge plot.

On Sept 30, is was said that a tipster passed on the information about the maid to Prince Charles and Camilla since the two have been taking personal interest in the case and have come out openly with their support for the kid’s parents, Kate and Gerry.

The news from the whistleblower has been handed over to Scotland Yard.

The detectives are trying to trace the writer, and sources have revealed that the information seems to be accurate.

“It appears that the email came from somewhere in the Iberian peninsular. The information does appear to check out,’ the Daily Mail quoted a source,a s saying.

"Whoever sent this email might not have wanted to trust it in the hands of the Portuguese police. They may well have thought that in order for people to take notice, they should sent it to Prince Charles,’ the source added.

The news comes when Portuguese police are still considering the theory that the girl may have been accidentally killed by Kate who was helped by Gerry to cover up the alleged crime.

The police also claim that the girl’s body may have been kept in a fridge before being dumped.

Police have opined a "mysterious and fatal " 90 minutes, when Kate was left alone in her apartment with her children, while Gerry was playing Tennis.

But, McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell denied the Portuguese claims calling it "utterly ridiculous". Mitchell has pleaded for an end to the smear campaign. (With inputs from ANI)
