NASA’s Cassini Spacecraft Captures Image of Saturn’s Moon Titan

American space agency NASA said in a statement that its Cassini spacecraft has sent back home images of the largest moon of Saturn i.e. Titan. The craft captured the image during its recent close flyby of the moon.

NASA researchers said the bluish green color shown in the image is although false, it represents the wavelengths of light captured by VIMS; blue at 1.3 microns, green at 2.0 microns and red at 5.0 microns.

The Cassini probe captured the images when it passed by Titan at about 6,000 miles above the surface. The craft has also delivered a high resolution image of one of Saturn's moons, Prometheus, which appears to be good.

Researchers Develop New Lie-Detecting Software

A team of researchers from the University of Michigan said they have found an advanced and improved way of detecting whether a person is lying or not. This new method is very much different from the polygraph test, said its makers.

The team created the software using videos from some high-stakes court cases. Explaining the working of the software, the researchers said the software uses a person’s words and gestures to detect behavioral patterns that may be different from the normal.

The software is presently undergoing a series of tests and evaluation processes. So far, the software has been 75% accurate in identifying a deceptive subject during testing.

Space Citizen Reaches $100 Million in Its Crowdfunding Campaign

Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), the company that developed the highly popular Star Citizen space simulation game, announced recently that Star Citizen has been successful in collecting $100 million in its crowdfunding campaign. The CIG also announced that the long-awaited game’s Alpha 2.0 version was playable.

Star Citizen has been ranked as the top crowd-funded project and top crowd-funded game in the world by Guinness World Records.

As per previous announcements, the Alpha features first-person shooting and EVA, or extra-vehicular activity. Before the Star Citizen even completed its project, its creator and director, Chris Roberts, said $100 million was the target he always wanted to hit. The total funding so far collected shows the campaign has been a success.

Birdwatchers to join Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Birdwatchers and nature lovers are invited to be a part of the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count, according to an announcement by Audubon North Carolina. The citizen science bird project, starting from Monday through January 5, allow public to gather data on birds that could help climate scientists.

During last year’s bird count, North Carolina, which is among the top-performing state in the Christmas census, it birders collected data over 15 individual species, the most tallies of any state in the US. They gathered important information on endangered red knot. As per reports, participants reported seeing about 1,600 red knots along the coast.

Bad Weather prevents NASA from Launching ISS Cargo Rocket; Next Try will be on Friday

On Thursday, bad weather delayed the launch of an Orbital ATK Inc. rocket to the International Space Station (ISS). Now, the resupply mission has been rescheduled to take off on Friday.

The mission to the space station is the first of the enhanced Cygnus, which will take about 7,700 pounds, or 3,500 kilograms, of cargo for astronauts living aboard the habitable artificial satellite in low Earth orbit.

Mike Pinkston, program manager of the Antares rocket, said in a statement that he was excited yet nervous about the company’s space station missions. He also said that the company is confident about the rocket. NASA has now scheduled the launch for Friday at 4:33 pm.

Artificial intelligence researchers applied human learning techniques to a computer program and found that the program performed better than humans. According to them, the breakthrough will be helpful for humans in the future.

Earlier, researchers tested a computer program and found that it could understand and recognize approximately 50 handwritten languages, including Gujarati, Tibetan, Sanskrit and Glagolitic. According to the researchers, it was a successful test, which proved that machines are better than humans when it comes to recognizing the figures.
