Space Citizen Reaches $100 Million in Its Crowdfunding Campaign
Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), the company that developed the highly popular Star Citizen space simulation game, announced recently that Star Citizen has been successful in collecting $100 million in its crowdfunding campaign. The CIG also announced that the long-awaited game’s Alpha 2.0 version was playable.
Star Citizen has been ranked as the top crowd-funded project and top crowd-funded game in the world by Guinness World Records.
As per previous announcements, the Alpha features first-person shooting and EVA, or extra-vehicular activity. Before the Star Citizen even completed its project, its creator and director, Chris Roberts, said $100 million was the target he always wanted to hit. The total funding so far collected shows the campaign has been a success.
Reaching at such a feat doesn’t mean that the production process for the game is over; some additional funds for the title will still carry on.
The release of the game’s Alpha 2.0 update allows funders to take part in space combats, first-person shooting battles, and multi-crew flight adventures.
Robert said, “Alpha 2.0 is a major breakthrough for Stars Citizen”. It represents the first true slice of gameplay that includes much of what Star Citizen will bring to its fans, he said.
Alpha 2.0 will include thrilling space combat in a massive play area, first person battles and multi-crew ships. Some other features in Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 include Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA), 20+ random encounters, Quantum travel, Large world tech, etc.
