Zafgen Test Drug to Help Shedding Off Weight in Type 2 Diabetics

To treat sever obesity caused by type 2 diabetes, Zafgen conducted a phase 2b trail which involved use of beloranib drug by study subjects. The results were found productive as drug succeeded in reducing body weight.

The patients who were given 1.8 mg doses of the beloranib drug had reduced 12.7% of their weight, while 13.5% of weight fell on taking 1.2 mg doses. In case of patients who were given placebo, they weighed less by 3.1% of their earlier weight.

The patients involved in both the 1.8 mg and 1.2 mg treatment arms achieved reduction in HbA1c by 2%, more as compared to 0.6% in case of placebo. The drug also registered success in treating Prader-Willi syndrome in a late-stage trial.

Antibodies Found in Ebola Survivor Could Fight Ebola Virus

The Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa made headlines in 2014 for infecting and causing death to over 28,600 and 11,300 people respectively. Health officials had struggled a lot to control the epidemic.

Recently, a number of antibodies from the blood of a survivor of recent Ebola outbreak were found effective in killing the deadly Ebola virus in mice by a team of researchers. The detailed findings of research were published in the journal Science.

What now is seen as a ray of hope by researchers is that the antibodies could help device vaccine for curing patients with Ebola diseases.

On the basis of national surveys conducted at a three-year difference, researchers have discovered that adults who said they used pot in the first survey were two to nine times more probable to suffer from a substance abuse issue by the time of the second survey.

California Safety Board votes down Proposal that asks for Condoms in Porn Movies

On Thursday, California officials liable for workplace safety put down a proposal that would have put condoms on porn actors, paying attention to the call of number of industry officials according to whom such a move would pressurize them to make films nobody would watch.

Cal/Osha spokeswoman Julia Bernstein said that the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health's Standards Board put down the measure when just three members backed it. For the passage, there was a requirement of four ‘yes’ votes from the seven-member board. During the voting, 3-2 was in favor, with one member was absent and a board position was presently open.

Bernstein said that the board is now going to start considering a fresh worker-safety measure for the porn industry.

Culinary Union Members protest Sunrise Hospital’s Negotiated Rates

Gulf War veteran Bryan Ashley-Selleck attempted suicide eleven years back. He said that being a patient of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), he'd sought help from the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has been visiting in and out of psychiatric wards.
