Delinquent youngsters suffering from PTSD need tailored treatment: Study

Washington D.C [USA], Oct. 7 : Juvenile offenders, who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are at 67 percent greater risk of entering substance abuse treatment within seven years, a new study has found.

Lead author of the study Jordan Davis said, "It's quite shocking, honestly and really speaks to the lasting impact of early childhood trauma."

The study's purpose was to determine the factors that predicted delinquent youths' entry into treatment and identify those who might benefit most from early interventions.

At least 30 percent of people in the criminal justice system have PTSD symptoms, prior studies have shown.

Most women are unaware of postmenopausal complications: Survey

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 7 : The Women's EMPOWER survey, an internet-based survey of 1,858 postmenopausal women with Vulvar and vaginal atrophy (VVA) symptoms; has found that postmenopausal women generally failed to recognize VVA and its chronic progressive course (including urinary problems).

They are also found reluctant to discuss vaginal or sexual symptoms with their healthcare providers.

The survey was specifically designed to assess women's awareness of VVA and their behaviors and attitudes associated with the treatment of symptoms.

The findings were consistent with six other past VVA surveys.

In the Women's EMPOWER survey, 81 percent of women were not aware that VVA is a medical condition.

Harshvarshan, Saiyami pair perfect at Mirzya London premiere

Patients diagnosed with HIV infection at advanced stage are more likely to transmit it

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 7 : A new research at the University of California has found that patients diagnosed late in the course of HIV infection are more likely to transmit HIV to others since they are

not on treatment to suppress it and could be transmitting the disease without knowing they are doing so.

Further, these patients are at an increased risk of negative health outcomes such as premature death, increased risk of HIV transmission, and opportunistic infections such as Kaposi's sarcoma, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and toxoplasmosis.

Lead researcher Brandon Brown and his team examined the prevalence and risk factors for county residents who have an AIDS diagnosis within 12 months of their first HIV-positive test.
