According to official reports, Indian authorities arrested a junior Indian diplomat posted in Islamabad on a charge of spying for Pakistan while she was on an official trip to New Delhi.

The Hindu newspaper has reported that the diplomat, identified as Madhuri Gupta, a Second Secretary in the information wing of the Indian embassy in Islamabad, was brought before a court Monday and ordered held in police custody for five days.

The second Sino-U. S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue next month in Beijing will be crucial for the future of their relations, Chinese analysts have said.

It has been reported that an oil slick in the Gulf Mexico has come with 20 miles of the coastline and Coast Guard officials said Tuesday they are considering setting the slick on fire.

Officials have said that the slick resulted from last week's oil rig explosion near Louisiana, which left 11 workers missing and presumably dead. Oil was leaking from a Deepwater Horizon well in the gulf, 50 miles off the Louisiana coast, at a rate of 42,000 gallons a day.

Coast Guard officials have said that the slick threatens environmentally sensitive areas in the Mississippi River Delta.

Officials have said that a Delta Air Lines Paris-to-Atlanta flight was diverted to Bangor, Maine, Tuesday after a passenger claimed he had explosives on board.

CNN has reported that Flight 273, carrying 235 passengers and a crew of 13 on an Airbus A330, landed in Maine at about 3:30 p. m. Federal air marshals took the man into custody but investigators found no explosives.

The man, who claimed he had false documents, was being questioned, Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said.
