London, Sept 2 : Most people believe that a cup of coffee in the morning helps them boost their mental performance all day.

But a new study by the University of East London has suggested that the stimulating effect of the coffee may be all in the mind.

The British researchers studied 88 volunteers aged between 18 and 47 who were self-confessed coffee lovers, downing at least two cups every day.

New Delhi, Sep 2 : The Supreme Court is likely to take up on Friday Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab's letter challenging the death penalty awarded to him in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, had moved the apex court on July 29 in this regard.

Kasab moved the Supreme Court against the Mumbai High Court's order upholding the death penalty.

New York, Sep 2 : The US manufacturing sector grew in August for the 25th consecutive month, but the pace of expansion was the slowest since July 2009, the Institute for Supply Management said Thursday.

The ISM's Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, came in at 50.6 points, down from 50.9 in July, and the lowest reading since the 49 percent registered in July 2009.

Even so, the August PMI figure was better than expected by analysts, who had feared the index would dip below 50, the dividing line between growth and contraction.

London, Aug 2 : British Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to do his best to stop Libya from becoming another Iraq, after Colonel Muammar Gaddafi ordered his leftover loyalists to turn the country into `hell'.

Cameron slammed the `cynics and armchair generals' who criticised intervention, and said that helping deliver democracy in the Middle East was in Britain's long-term interests.

Mumbai, Sep 2 : A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Friday was trading about 60-odd points higher in morning trade, having slipped soon after opening.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) which opened at 16,963.67 points was ruling 16,739.61 points -- up 62.86 points or 0.38 percent from its previous close at 16,676.75 points.

The Sensex had risen to almost touch the 17,000-mark in early trade.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also trading higher, 0.25 percent up at 5,013.35 points.

Washington, Sep 2 : Singer Marc Anthony said his seven-year marriage with Jennifer Lopez was no longer "sustainable" and that the couple's split was not the result of a dramatic blowup.

"I'll tell you that it wasn't something sensationalistic happening," said Anthony in an interview broadcast Thursday by ABC, breaking the silence he had maintained since news of the divorce broke.
