'Wave 3' of Microsoft's Windows Live Services Roll Out
Microsoft announced a complete repair of its Windows Live suite of software and services last month. During the time, it was said by the company that general public would be able to avail Live by early December. Sticking to what the company had said, Microsoft announced today that the refreshed services has been launched and are available at home. live. com.
By giving an early look at the suite in beta form, reviews of the major components of the suite has been published by PCMag. com. The components of the suite included: Windows Live Home, Windows Live Mail, and Windows Live Photo Gallery.
However, the announcement on Tuesday only pertains to the Web services and not the new versions of the downloadable software. Moreover, Hotmail, the most heavily used live web service, has not being updated to Wave 3 as of now.
The Live users are given a compelling and highly customizable entry point into all the services by the Windows Live Home site, which may be the most groundbreaking component of the suite. The users can create a network of contacts with which they can share status updates and photos.
The reach is extended by the new home page to third-party web properties such as Flicker, iLike, Twitter, and Yelp. The users are allowed to conduct instant messaging session's right from the page via the People page that brings Live Messenger a web interface. The users can now even add relationship status, interests, work, and school info through a richer Profile page, just as Facebook's Info page does.
The MSN Groups would be replaced by Windows Live Groups that will let chat, photosharing and announcements among private group members. Moreover, the SkyDrive online storage service has also been updated, with a free storage allowance increased from
5 Gbytes to 25GB.
"The web Photos has been beefed up with more storage too, also 25GB, and improves tagging, commenting, slideshows, and uploading from cell phones. Windows Live Events, too, gets the makeover, with a simplified interface," said Microsoft.
Over the next 24 hours, Microsoft will be rolling the updates out globally and any one can read more about it on the Windows Live team blog.
