In a tiff to prove ownership of land in Gujarat, where the automobile giant Tata Motors is planning to construct its Nano project, a group of farmers from the gathering villages have pulled their socks up to fight a legal case against the automobile giant. Apparently, the farmers were not at all happy with the concessions being given to Tata Motors.  

Adding more, on Wednesday, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was also filed in the Gujarat high court. 

Earlier this week, to talk on the issue, the farmers from Sanand had a meeting with BJP MLA Kamabhai Rathod, a BJP legislature of Viramgam constituency, the Ahmedabad district collector and the Sanand mamlatdar. The leader of the group of the farmers from Khoda village, Mukeshsinh Waghela, reported, “We have now decided to approach the Gujarat high court as the government has not considered our claim.”

It has been claimed by the kin of the previous royal family of Sanand and farmers from Khoda and Bol villages that they have part-ownership of the more than 2,000-acre land, which according to them was earlier given to the Anand Agriculture University and it was only last week that the land was earmarked for the Nano project. 

Not only this, the farmers also say that the land was given to the British rulers back in 1902 by their forefathers, in order to save the Kankreji breed of cattle during the times of drought, which occurred then.

Few years back, the kin of Devisinh Vaghela also filed a case for a part of the land, since he claimed to have given it to the British rulers. On 19th October, this case will come up for hearing at the Ahmedabad court. Most likely, the state government will act as a party in the case.
